Enlist in the WA Comedy Bootcamp for Beginners and undergo two weeks of intensive comedy training with award-winning Perth comedian Colin Ebsworth. This fun and engaging workshop will put aspiring comedians through their paces, teaching the essential skills needed to survive—and thrive—on the stand-up stage.
Over two weekly sessions, recruits will learn how to identify comedic targets, develop original material, deliver punchlines with precision, and build the confidence needed to face a live audience. Through a series of practical exercises, writing drills, and performance challenges, you’ll gain the tools to turn everyday observations into comedy gold.
No previous comedy experience is required. Whether you’re a complete rookie or simply looking to strengthen your public speaking skills, this bootcamp will help prepare you for active duty in the world of stand-up.
Training Schedule: Two sessions conducted over two consecutive weeks (Sunday 5 and Sunday 12 July 2026)*
Mission Objective: Develop your own stand-up comedy material and learn the fundamentals of live performance.
Who Should Enlist: Adults and young adults with a sense of humour and a willingness to step outside their comfort zone. Recommended 16+

*NOTE: When purchasing your ticket, this will enlist you into both sessions on the two consecutive weeks.
Course Outline
Week 1 (Sunday 5 July):
In week one our students will be introduced to their host Colin Ebsworth. They will have the opportunity to explore the allure of comedy and how to leverage the power of funny on (and off) the stage!
Students will be given real world examples and presentations of the fundamentals of joke writing, creation and delivery.
As a group we will journey through the origin of jokes, why they resonate with so many of us. From there we will look at the fundamentals of what is a joke, how to create them and where to start writing!
Students will be tasked with creating jokes during the workshop as well as for their first standup comedy set in week 2!
Week 2 (Sunday 12 July):
Week 2 will see students engage in the physical performance of comedy. Students will be guided through various ways that jokes can be told with collaborative group writing exercises that lead into their own show!
Students will be given invaluable advice and tricks of the trade for learning their material, managing nerves, working a room and so much more!
In a fun, supportive and encouraging environment, students will be given the opportunity to conquer their fears and deliver their own material to the class complete with stage, lighting, sound MC and audience!
